We Wrote a Book!

Have you ever had a childhood dream that you put in the back corner of your mind and then life happens and doubt and excuses start to creep into your mind? Writing a book was that dream for me. I remember growing up writing and drawing short stories in my diary.

Why I wrote the book:

Fast forward several years where I decided to get focused and start the journey. After one year of careful planning and a little trial and error, here we are about to publish our first book! We’ve learned a lot along the way and happy beyond belief to have gotten this far and what the finished product resulted in. We hope you enjoy it too….

Why did you write about your dog?

As you all know, I fell in love and became obsessed over Meeko. After seeing success on his Instagram, it seemed only natural to share his personality and fun spirit through a children’s book! Last year at a family beach trip, I got the nudge that I needed to get things in motion. I wanted to create something for the world that showcased Meeko. Our family and I were talking up ideas. And one was Abby you should write a children’s book about Meeko! Everyone was like that’s perfect for you.

Why is it perfect for me?

A little background about me is I am a pediatric dental assistant. I work with children every day in the field. As my co-workers would say I have a special touch to calming a patient down or know how to get down to their level of interest. I have always had a passion to work with children and it’s not a chore… I really do have fun with them too. Blend that passion with my love for dogs and you get a children’s book. And yes, I am one of those crazy dog moms and proud of it!

What would I even write about?

This is the first thought that went through my mind. My sister-n-law was like what if it was about the beach since that seemed like where Meeko was in his natural element. I was like perfect! After that little spark, I was determined to do this. I have always dreamed about doing it. But I also wanted to help kids with their reading. My sister-n-law who is a speech therapist started listing all the benefits certain type of rhyming books had for kids with speech issues. I knew then in my heard that this was right because I struggled with similar issues when I was younger.

Now, that it is finished it is hard to believe. Never in a million years did I realistically actually think I would be a published author. Always go for your dreams no matter the obstacles that stand in the way. I hope this is just one of many books you will see published by me in the future.
